Richard Lowenberg

Prior to the filming of The Secret Life of Plants, Richard Lowenberg had been doing a project series, titled "Bio-Dis-Plays". Working with NASA technical support, multi-channel bio-telemetry systems (EEG, EMG, EKG, etc.) were used to monitor performers' physiology. These signals were then used as inputs to audio and video synthesizers, in extended biofeedback-media artworks. For the film, the choreographed audio and video performance grew incrementally, from one plant up to six monitored plants, then adding up to six dancers wearing small EEG and EMG radio telemetry sensor/transmitters.
